Mark Strodl is an internationally acclaimed Photo Artist. Having studied at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan under Johanathan Borofsky, Jennifer Bartlett, & Mel Bochner. He is deeply rooted in the historic tradition in Fine Arts having studied under these mentors. Big as in Avedon, influienced by Guy Boudin, Weegie, Brassier, Jacques Henri Lartigue, Man Ray as photographers, Warhol, & Duchamp, as Artists.
He pushes the boundaries of our allowable perception of reality & what we accept by asking these simple questions to you. Things enter and leave time all together, no one or nothing is safe within this world. Always pushing the envelope, his work alludes to the organic presence within this technical medium, bringing the viewer to new acceptable realms of perception, questions.
In this series I am trying to show man against man, this fading society, that struggle & fragility.
Watercolors, Shredding & Printmaking :
I am tired in feeling guilty in using Photoshop as a medium, in that people miss correctly say that it is manipulated. In this series, I have left no holes barred. Never to deceive, yet to see, a totally different perspective. As a print making medium all unto itself.
Much like when I used to do etchings in Collage, that long laborious process in ripping apart, or reassembling the print, to get to your desired ends.
WATERCOLORS : Is where this mechanical medium becomes Organic, Natural, Flowing like a brush, soft, Transparent. Much like the French would do with their neutral canvas, This is my paper medium, from where I begin.
SHREDDING: Is the process in where you eliminate areas that are un necessary information that distract, that detract from where we are trying to go.
Much like in seeing, it is only those things necessary that we need to communicate.
INVENTION : Every piece is different, the discovery, the magic, asking the viewer to participate, getting involved.

Looking to find themseves today. Often confused with a deep sence of nature as their refuge, yet lost within this modern societty. |

I have worked in Manhattan for 20 years, and I always wanted to do this, having Faith that the story line would reveal itself to me, I went over and over getting my 8 shots per day. It became a monster, where for the first 2 years I shot it incorrectly for the web. I was able 2 years later to correct this anomaly. I became a classic photo man here on these streets. |
| Europe |
How do you shoot a city in 3 days ? Where it rains everyday ? Where it was costing me $ 300. per day, where half the buildings were restricted ? Where in the end I had to organise 10,000 pix's. Simple, I loved Europe too much ! |

There is no substitute for street sense. Shooting in a foreign territory, were you could get killed for what you are about to do. These skills will follow me all over the world, yes a set of kahundra balls. |

It is a new World :
I love shooting pictures, Storylines are key. Honestly I embrace or Photo Historic roots, of Brady, Lartigue, Kertesz, Brassai, Arbus, Weege, Guy Boudin, of what they bought forward. Yet this is a new age, a time of change, a time of the Internet and sharing. A time where we have access and are able to show a storyline, as I feel that a single print is so misleading, yes even to lie for all that is missing behind a single image. Don't ask Eisenstaedt ( eisey) how many times that he shot,"The Kiss," in Times Square 1944. Or ask Paul Strand's motivating image for the Spanish Revolution, " The Shot " from his contact sheet, with or without a jacket ? A single image hides too much.
